Illinois Movers & State Information

When you decided to live in Illinois you made the right choice. Before you choose any movers from 123 Movers, read below to see why you couldn't have picked a better place to live.

Illinois, the most populous of the Midwest states, is bordered by Wisconsin, Kentucky, Iowa, Missouri, and Michigan. Illinois also shares a border with Lake Michigan; one of the Great Lakes. An important historic fact about Illinois is that it was the first state to ratify the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery. Aside from being the most populous, Illinois also has the strongest Democratic influence amongst the Midwest states. This is due to the fact that Chicago, the largest city in Illinois, dominates state-wide elections pushing the overall vote dramatically in favor of the Democratic Party. Overall, Illinois is a fantastic place to live. Chicago, which some may call a “cleaner New York,” is filled with towering skyscrapers and unique and elaborate buildings. First and foremost there’s the Sears Tower. It’s the tallest building in North America spanning 1,451 ft. and the fourth tallest building in the world. It’s called the Sears Tower because the Sears & Roebuck Co. originally had offices located in its lower half. Another of Chicago’s wondrous skyscrapers is the Aon Center. Spanning 1,136 ft., this building’s metal rods create soft sounding music when hit by the wind. Another interesting fact about the Aon Center is that it’s the only purely rectangular building in the world that is over 300 meters tall. These two buildings are just a taste of the architecture that Illinois has to offer.

Some very important scientific breakthroughs have also taken place in Illinois. In 1942, Enrico Fermi and his team of scientists and engineers created the first nuclear fission reactor at the University of Chicago. Fermi was able to create the first nuclear chain reaction, giving him the name “father of the atomic bomb.”

In terms of entertainment, Illinois is filled with fun attractions. If you want a museum, check out the Field Museum in Chicago where you can see the world’s largest and most complete T-Rex. For sports, there is no shortage considering Illinois has six professional sports franchises, each with its own historic background. There’s theatesr, beaches, restaurants, and all sorts of other exciting activities that you can experience when you live in Illinois.
