Worldwide Moving Company

The Carter family has a history in the moving business that can be traced back to the year 1096. In the 9th century (the time of the Great Crusades), the term "carter" or "cartier" was used to describe anyone that tended or drove a cart or small wagon. This time period saw the rise of a new working class. Those men and women that made their living working with people instead of with the land. People that made their living by ensuring that the produce of other hands got to the people that needed them. Thus, the transportation industry was born.

To the hard working people involved in this new enterprise, it didn't matter whether they were hired to transport household goods, a farmer's produce or even livestock. All were handled with equal care. After all, if delivery was not made, the shipper didn't get paid (and neither did the "carter".) This is the beginning of the Carter family name.

In those days, people's surnames tended to be descriptive of their heritage, characteristics or occupation. Some good examples of this are (you guess the connection) Johnson, Gardener, Taylor, Baker, Swift, Fletcher, Smith, and, of course, Carter.

One look at the Carter family "Coat of Arms" shows the family's commitment to their work. From the Greyhound perched atop the seal (representing "speed", said to be an essential characteristic of any GOOD carter), to the knight's helm (representing "security", another of those traits a GOOD carter must have), to the wheel's on the shield itself ("rolling, rolling, rolling"), the entire family history is shown. Even the Latin scroll "PRAESTO ET PERSTO" translates to "Preparedness and Persistence."

What does this insight into the Carter family name mean to you? Take it as assurance that, to John, the moving industry is more than a job, it is a heritage!

In 1941, John's grandfather moved a piano from Louisville, Kentucky to Denver, Colorado. With that successful move, the "American carter" tradition was born. John's grandfather realized that the most important factor in the business he hoped to build was customer satisfaction. He passed that belief on to his son, Elvin, who in turn, ingrained it in his own son, John.

In 1950, the Carter family took a chance. They became affiliated with a worldwide moving conglomerate (affiliated with North American Van Lines.) This risk of family integrity was rewarded when the Carters discovered that North American shared their family concern over the satisfaction of their customers. Amazingly, in this impersonal world both organizations feel that there is a whole lot more to the moving service than simply transporting belongings from one house to another. This was a marriage made in heaven. Both companies shared the opinion that moving people or companies is an art that can only be learned through diligence, nurtured by experience and perfected through a commitment to excellence.

Training is an important and never-ending part of the career of every member of the Carter/North American team - office, counselors, packers, drivers, and the rest of the family.

At John Carter's Worldwide, we are constantly exploring new ways to serve each and every one of our customers better. We are employing the latest innovations, the most modern techniques, and the best in packing materials. The Carter/North American art of moving demands a passion for excellence, an extra measure of care, and an unsurpassed pride in the job we do. Because we treat your possessions as if they were our own, we've earned the most enviable reputation in the industry for safety and reliability. Maybe that's why our customers remember us as "the Careful Movers."

Why do we go to all of this "trouble?" Simple answer. We are CARTERS in the purest sense of the word and our ultimate goal is to see you on your NEXT move!
