| | I have never gone online to write a review but it has been 30 days since my move. My contract was for 8 - 10 am in the morning. They showed at 4pm. I was told they would not use laborers. I believe one was an employee and one was not. Bryan was the salesperson. I was told some movers will offer lower quotes by two men and a truck and than not show up if they get a better job. I lost a day and started to move things I could fit in my car myself. By 4 pm they showed. I helped load and it was night and dark by the time they got to my destination. At that point I had two friends come to help us. I wanted it done. One guy I belive to be day help could not carry or move anymore furniture. He was exhausted. My friend moved the furniture w/one guy up the stairs. I did not take it out the movers and tipped them well. The idea was to have someone move me or I could have rented a uhaul w/these same friends and do it myself. When all was said and done I was up to $480. I specifically told Bryan there were stairs. The mover said it was some fee after 50 ft from the truck. AGain, on the phone I s/w Bryan to assure I would not be told of any hidden fee surprises. They tried but I was not biting once at delivery. My reason for writing, its been 4 weeks since my move and I wanted some compensation. 2 - 3 hours back since WE did HALF THE WORK. Last week I was told a check would go out to me on Monday for $180. When I received nothing I called again they said they would refund it to my credit card. Another week and NOTHING! I have been more than fair, extremely patient. I am disgusted at their lack of courtesy and respect in resolving this issue for me. Therefore, prompting me to go ahead and speak of my poor customer service. | | Now that my move is complete, I want everyone to know how disappointed I am in the way my move was carried out. First of all, when we first discussed the price of the quote, the person assured me that the rate of $195 was going to be the final price of the move - including blankets and travel time. He specifically told me that the only way the price would be more would be if I needed any boxes or needed the movers to pack anything for me. However, the first thing the mover told me when he arrived at my apartment was that there was going to be an extra $122 added because it was longer than 50 feet from the truck to my apartment door. This greatly irritated me because we discussed that the movers would have to be using an elevator to get to the 18th floor of one apartment and the 24th floor of the other. I let the mover know that this is not what we discussed but he said he was only able to drop the price to an extra $61 - no less. Next, the movers started taping blankets to all of my furniture including my couches and mattresses. I told them it wasn't necessary to protect the couches or mattresses seeing as how it was a short move (only one mile away) but they insisted it was required for them to do it. Plus, I'm going to be getting new couches, so if they got damaged; it wasn't a huge deal to me. Next they told me they would meet me at my new apartment. Well, I waited for an hour, but they still were not there. I called one of them and he informed me that he lost my building's vendor badge so he had to pay for it. Personally, I don't think that takes an hour to do, but according to him, it did. I live in Brickell a.k.a the financial district of Miami, so there is basically a bank on every corner. An hour and a half later they showed up to my apartment telling me that on top of the $62 carrying fee, they were going to charge me an extra $76 because they had to protect the mattresses, couches, and TVs. I almost understand the charge for packaging the TVs. I understand they're fragile and need extra care, but it's absolutely ridiculous to charge $20 per TV to put a blanket on it and tape a piece of cardboard to the front. I am especially mad that he charged me for the couches and mattresses because I said they did not need plastic wrapped around them. The mover didn't seem to care that I had specifically said not to put anything on the couches or mattresses and said he was giving me a good deal so I should be happy. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with the level of service I have received from Van Lines of America, and I wish I had booked with Quality Miami Movers as I had originally planned. It is clear to me that their upfront price means nothing. Including tip, I ended up paying almost double what I was quoted. It is a sneaky way of doing business and I hope they don't treat your other customers like this. I don't know if much can be resolved but I hope that this will help improve Van Lines of America's business practices. I know in a year I will need to move again, and the way things are now, I will not even consider contacting them again and I will warn my friends. | | Company Response |
