About Suburban Moving
- 1967 Leonard Tromp and John Sorenson team up to form Suburban Moving & Storage
Company
- 1974 Suburban joins an elite group by becoming a United Van Lines agent
- 1975 Suburban's growth continues, now owning warehouses totaling over
40,000 square feet and opening their second full service operation
- 1985 Suburban receives the prestigious United Van Lines marketing excellence
award as #1 United Agent in residential sales
- 1988 Suburban opens a self-service mini-warehouse division
- 1988 Suburban opens international freight forwarding division
- 1989 Suburban opens full-service record storage division
- 1991 Suburban hits a grand slam and earns the Home Express outstanding
service award for the third year!
- 1992 Suburban hits another milestone earning (fourth year in a row) the
PHH Homequity Home Express outstanding service award
- 1993 Suburban builds Suburban II. A second full-service operation in Mundelein,
Illinois
- 1997 Suburban exceeds 45,000 individual Record Storage units
- 2000 Suburban exceeds 75,000 individual Record Storage units
- 2005 Suburban Moving & Storage becomes VantageBlue™ Suburban
About Wherley Moving & Storage
- 1898 W.H. Landwehr starts a transfer business in St. Cloud, MN with one
team of horses and one wagon.
- 1909 Landwehr Transfer purchases its first truck, an International High
Wheel.
- 1915 Landwehr Transfer purchases its second truck, a Model T Ford.
- 1918 After 20 years of overseeing the business, W.H. Landwehr steps down,
and his son, H.W. Landwehr becomes the new owner of Landwehr Transfer. The
firm continues to grow.
- 1928 Landwehr Transfer purchases its first closed moving van. It was the
first to be seen in St. Cloud, MN.
- 1943 A new, modern warehouse and storage facility is opened. It is the
most modern warehousing and storage quarters available in their customer’s
market.
- 1948 R.W. “Ralph” Landwehr and H.E. “Harold” Landwher
take ownership of Landwehr Transfer. Landwehr Transfer becomes Landwehr Moving
Services, and grows to be the largest firm of its kind in the area.
- 1953 Landwehr Moving Services acquires Wherley Transfer in Duluth, MN.
Ralph Landwher and his family move to Duluth, MN to manage the new acquisition.
- 1954 Ralph Landwehr sells his interest in the St. Cloud firm to his brother,
Harold, and purchases the Duluth firm in its entirety. The name Wherley Transfer
is retained for the Duluth business.
- 1955 The business is incorporate as Wherley Moving & Storage. Ralph
Landwehr becomes the first president and operation manager, Donald Bodenmer
becomes the first Secretary Treasurer, and Mrs. Donald Bodenmer becomes the
sales and office manager.
- 1956 Construction is completed on the first building built expressly for
Wherley Moving & Storage.
- 1971 Ownership is transferred to R.W. “Ralph” Landwehr and
J.H. “Jerry” Landwehr. Wherley Moving & Storage opens an
office in East Grand Forks, MN.
- 1975 Wherley Moving & Storage is owned by R.W. “Ralph” Landwehr
, J.H. “Jerry” Landwehr, and K.E. “Ken” Landwehr.
- 1981 Wherley Moving & Storage becomes an agent for United Van Lines.
- 1983 Ownership belongs to J.H. “Jerry” Landwehr, K.E. “Ken” Landwher
and J.R. “Jim” Landwehr.
- 1987 Ownership transferred to K.E. “Ken” Landwehr and J.R. “Jim” Landwehr.
- 1995 A second location is purchased in East Grand Forks, MN, and the company
opens Alliance Relocation, a Mayflower Agent.
- 2000 Ed Meyer becomes the majority share holder, president and CEO of
Wherley Moving & Storage.
- 2001 In March, Wherley Moving & Storage acquires Speedway Moving & Storage
in Marshall, MN and the name is changed to Wherley Moving & Storage.
In July of the same year, Wherley Moving & Storage opens another office
in Cannon Falls, MN.
- 2005 Wherley Moving & Storage becomes a VantageBlue company.
