Within the Five Boroughs there is special rate based on an hourly rate. When
you call us, please ask about these specials if you are moving within 5 Boroughs.
Outside of the 5 boroughs, travel time should be added from the time the truck
leaves to the pick-up in addition to counting the time the truck returns back
to our terminal after completing the move. This will all be added to the labor
charges. How is the Customer Charged? Mover charges for the following:
Labor: You pay an hourly rate for each member of the moving crew, clocked
from the time they reach the job until they finish at your new address. The
hourly labor charge in New York ranges from $20 to $30 per non-union .mover;
from $35 to $55 per union mover. (Generals hourly rate is currently $20. It
is, however, subject to change)
Trucks: A truck is also charged by the hour, anywhere from $12 to $35 in New
York. Keep in mind, you need a truck designed to move household goods, not
to move freight. The cost of all tolls is additional.
Travel time: This charge covers the mover's cost for traveling from his facilities
to the origin of the move, and returning to his facilities from the destination
after the move is complete.
Materials: This is the cost of boxes, tape and other packing material provided
by the mover during the move.
Insurance/valuation: This is an additional charge to the customer to cover
his or her goods in case of damages.
All of these charges must be filed with the local state agency (in New York,
the D.O.T.). A mover is not allowed to charge more - or less - than the filed
rates (called his tariff). When you are online, don't forget to ask about additional
charges: packing supplies , insurance, travel time, stairs in your building,
small driveway etc...
