| | Elgee Movers told me the cost of moving would be $80 an hour for three men and $80 for the truck. Therefore, they do not have a fleet of trucks. They rent a plain white truck when they have a move. All of the men who showed up told me that moving was just a side job for them - they are not professionals. Elgee Movers was to show up at 9:00 a.m. At 9:45 I called them - they were on the way. Three men showed up who were very nice. However, they are not professionals. I had to leave to settle with the new apartment complex. At that point, Larry asked me if I had "a few hundred dollars." (They had not finished packing the truck or moving any boxes.) I don't carry around hundreds of dollars. So in front of me, Larry said to his guys, "I guess you don't get paid this week." I went to the ATM and got out $400. From Larry's comments and need for money even before completing the move, they are a fly-by-night moving company with no cash reserves. By 8:30 p.m. they had finished moving my belongings from a one-bedroom apartment (10 1/2 hours). Larry called me several times after 9:00 p.m. asking if he could come to my apartment to pick up a check. I asked him how much I owed. He told me he would tell me when he saw me. I told him I was extremely tired and to send me a bill. Larry called for several days. I continued to tell him to send me a bill. As I was going through my apartment, I noticed that the movers had put a deep scratch in the footer of my sleigh bed. They also broke off the base of a lamp - and taped it thinking I wouldn't notice. Larry said that he was licensed, insured, and bonded. However, instead of calling his insurance agent, he wanted a "friend" to putty up the scrape in my bed (which was only six months old). Since Larry was so unprofessional, I was not going to let his friend touch my bed. I told Larry how much the bed footer ($250) and lamp ($150) cost. He said that he would be generous and knock off $100 from my bill!!! Replacement cost was $400 - not $100!! Larry threatened to take me to court for the additional money I owed him (which I still don't know what the total cost was). I was fine with going to court. I have pictures of the bed and lamp. Also, a one-bedroom move 10 miles away should NOT take over 10 hours. (Larry's workers are smokers. I never saw more than two at a time in my apartment.) I've also realized that I am missing several items. I am missing kitchen items (silverware, pans, dishes; miscellaneous items (diffusion candles, towels). I do not know how many boxes they stole. However, a friend and I packed things the night before Larry's guys came and I was packing while they were there. Therefore, no one else had access to the boxes. I assume that Larry is not licensed, bonded, or insured. He rents a truck as needed, uses friends and his son as movers, needs cash immediately, and does not take responsibility for damaged items. In addition, I never received an exact quote or order number. When I paid Larry, I asked for a receipt. He seemed frustrated that I asked and had to find a piece of paper to write the receipt. | | I spoke with Larry at Elgee Movers to move my mother from a 2nd floor apt to a first floor apt - I live in Rhode Island and needed someone safe and trustworthy to move her belongings. Elgee showed up on time with 3 movers as quoted and worked very hard all day - The movers were very nice my cousins said, professional and we were extremely pleased with the service provided.
