Whether we are moving a few pieces of furniture to an apartment or a house full of furniture, we want to show you the care that goes into every local move that is handled within the state of Arizona.
Moving within 50 miles of your current residence is normally considered a local move. Charges for local moving are usually based on an hourly rate. The hourly rates vary depending on the amount of labor necessary for a move. A one-bedroom apartment will require less labor than a four-bedroom house.
It is important to discuss liability and cargo insurance with your Relocation Counselor prior to the loading of your household goods.
As local moving charges are based upon time, there are steps that you can take to reduce the time, thus cost, of your move. The single most important way to ensure an efficient move is to be organized! Save money and avoid stress by being prepared when the movers arrive on moving day.
Some other helpful tips:
If possible, you may want to consider moving a few items yourself. It can be a good idea to move plants, pictures, and electronic items prior to your local move.
Disconnect stereo equipment, computers, and other electronic items. Wrap and secure cords and wiring.
If you are moving from, or to, an apartment make sure you reserve the elevator well in advance of your move. Ask the building management about moving restrictions (some apartments have limited time for moving).
Have your large appliances serviced and disconnected. (Your relocation counselor can help you with this detail... ask them in advance!)
Secure parking access for the moving truck. The closer the better.
Prepare a plan of where your furniture will be placed in your new residence. Remember the old adage: “Time is Money!”
If you are doing the packing be sure to have it done before the moving crew arrives. Mark each box with your name and the room where you want it placed. Cartons containing glassware, china, and other delicate items should be marked FRAGILE.
Dresser drawers can usually be left full. Articles in desks and end tables should be packed. Ask your mover about their policy concerning leaving items in drawers.
Make sure you tell your local mover about the access to your new residence. If the truck must be parked far from the residence it will impact the cost of your move.

Interstate moves, also referred to as “long distance” moves, are based on the following information and charged under the moving industry’s Tariff 400-N:
Weight of shipment
Mileage from both origin and destination address
Amount of packing required
Automobile or other bulky articles
Amount of valuation protection coverage
Tariff 400-N serves as the principal moving industry tariff that governs the transportation of household goods between points in the United States and Canada.
Tariff 400-N marks an important departure from previous tariffs and changes the way that transportation rates apply for interstate movers. The new tariff incorporates many of the commonly-applied individual additional service charges, such as all elevator, flight and excessive distance carry charges, all piano and organ carries, and all additional transportation charges into a single Origin/Destination Service Fee (Item 135) that applies along with the transportation charges in order to simplify the application of the tariff.
In addition, in order to further simplify the application of the tariff, shipments that receive complete (full) packing service are now rated on a per hundredweight basis. Also, a number of provisions that were infrequently applied, including Shipments on Tour, Empty Miles, Travel Time, and Signature Service have been cancelled and no longer appear in the tariff.
The other big change that has been made in the new tariff is the use of zip codes to rate shipments. The former point-to-point distance application has been replaced with a zip code-to-zip code rating system for determining the transportation charges and additional services.
It is important to discuss liability and cargo insurance with your moving company prior to the loading of your household goods.
