Weight

The average weight of a house normally falls between dozens to several hundreds of tons. Your house should be somewhere within that parameter.

Structural Specialist

The structural specialist is the first person you should meet when it comes to moving houses. He or she will tell you if your house is sturdy enough to be moved.

Tools/Supplies

Most house movers will arrive to your home with a bunch of jacks, timbers and other related equipment. The aforementioned items will be able to lift your house on to the moving truck and support your humble abode while it goes on its own journey.

Contractors

Make sure the house movers have been in talks with contractors because the contractors are going to have to handle the wiring and the plumbing in your house. The wiring and plumbing have to properly be disassembled so they can be reassembled just as easily when your house is moved to its destination.

Insurance/City Representatives

If the house movers haven't contacted the appropriate people about getting the right permits in place so roads can be blocked from traffic for example, get it done yourself. You do not want to leave this for the last minute. City officials are often hard to get a hold of. Make sure your house has the appropriate insurance as well. Damages can occur and you need to be prepared.

Final Cost

Take a look at the final bill before you make a payment to the house movers. Make sure the final cost includes such items as the size of the house, how many things like power lines and hindrances will need to be moved out of the way for the house and how far the house is being moved among other things. Your final cost shouldn’t be any higher than $40,000.
